Class Summary:
Interviews and advises students regarding information, procedures and academic requirements of a specific program or major. Assists students
in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities, and setting goals.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience

Bachelors Degree and (2) years of experience in academic
advising or related field within higher education or community based organizations.


Masters Degree and (3) years of experience in academic

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Knowledge of Colleague and Navigate, and the ability to utilize various technology tools to assist in
tracking of student retention.

Assess student’s stage of development and promote student growth by assisting student in establishing academic and
career goals.

Advises students on academic and career issues: identifies the educational and career options appropriate for each
student and assists with the analysis of each option. Sets up an action plan for student to explore alternative careers and related

Identifies options for student to satisfy degree requirements; evaluates and makes recommendations on amendments/changes to
student’s program of study; assists student in completion.

Monitors academic progress of students; determines eligibility and

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing,
