Academic Advisor I – Engineering and Technology

Position Category: Staff – Full-Time

Summary:
We are looking for an exceptional academic advisor to join our team. Our advising practice is holistic, proactive, and data-informed. We hope to employ an individual who is passionate about student success and who is an excellent communicator.
This is a role where you will make a real difference in the lives of college students, empowering students to succeed both academically and personally. UVU emphasizes “a place for you” no matter a student’s personal or educational background.

A summary of duties includes:

  • Assist students in the development of meaningful educational planning, major selection, co-curricular opportunities, relevant academic information, and applicable campus resources.
  • Support a student caseload using holistic advising approaches, proactive outreach, and data-informed strategy in an effort to assess potential roadblocks, take early action to mitigate them, and advocate on behalf of students.
  • Utilize technology to monitor student risk trends over time, track student performance and progress toward graduation, and proactively reach out to students in need of intervention.
  • Educate students on enrollment, registration, major selection, university processes, and student success strategies.
  • Engage in professional development and remain current in advising best practices to adapt and apply professional development related knowledge to work activities.
  • Participate in department, division, and institutional goals and activities by assisting in the planning and delivery of programs and new initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelors degree plus one year of experience related to Summary of Duties totaling five years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to UVUs mission and strategic directions.
  • Knowledge of academic advising, theories and research relevant to the profession.
  • Demonstrated skill in effective interpersonal communication, collaboration, professionalism, and student advocacy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and colleagues.
