To support this mission, Frostburg State University, Center for Academic Advising and Retention, seeks applications for full-time, 12-month exempt positions at the rank of Academic Advisor I or Academic Advisor II in a comprehensive academic support system. Candidates who meet the minimum requirements for Academic Advisor II will be considered for appointment at that rank.
The Center for Academic Advising and Retention coordinates professional academic advising through Frostburg State’s dual advising model. Salary commensurate with experience and includes University System of Maryland benefits package.

Description of Ongoing/New Duties
Academic Advisor I: Reporting to the Director of Academic Advising, provide academic advising services and monitor student progress. Advise students about academic requirements and course selection; review placement and standardized tests, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites; interpret degree audits, monitor course registrations, and work with students to resolve issues; act as a student advocate when appropriate. Support early alert and advising case management systems; meet with students in jeopardy, counsel on goal-setting and academic recovery, and refer to support services. Distribute advising policies and procedures; serve as a resource for academic departments and other offices, advisors, and services; participate in advisor training. Understand FERPA regulations and stay current on institutional policies, procedures, practices, and student information systems. Appointees to the rank of Academic Advisor II will also have duties in planning and implementing advising programs and advisor training.
Minimum Qualifications for Advisor I: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, or related field, and two years of professional or relevant experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals.
Minimum Qualifications for Advisor II: Master’s Degree in Education, Higher Education, Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals. Three or more years of experience in academic advising in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications for Advisor I: At least two years of experience providing academic support to diverse populations of college students. Experience with technologies used to support student success.
Preferred Qualifications for Advisor II: Experience with technologies used to support student success.
