The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Office of Academic Assistance seeks to hire
an energetic and self-motivated person to join our team as an Academic Advisor II. We are looking for candidates that exhibit the

Office
:

Our college houses 5 academic departments; Criminal Justice & Criminology, Economics, Public Management & Policy,
School of Social Work and Urban Studies Institute. Our college is home to approximately 2100 students in 7 undergraduate programs, 15
graduate programs and 7 minors.

The Office of Academic Assistance is a team of 7 staff members which reports to the Dean’s
Office. We service mainly Seniors (approximately 650 students) in our undergraduate program. We also serve graduate students and provide a
multitude of administrative services to the student, faculty and staff body of the College.

About the
Position
:

The Academic Advisor II advises and assists students and academic departments/units with verbal or written academic
plans, advisement interpretation and implementation of university policies and procedures in the areas of student enrollment and evaluation.
An Academic Advisor II should have a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and have excellent computing skills.

This position has academic advisement and counseling responsibilities, including assisting students in developing academic plans and
goals, advising students on academic and administrative processes, evaluation of transfer credit, giving referrals, preparing graduation
audits, assisting with the recruitment and retention of students and interpreting regulations. It also assists the Director, Assistant
Director and the OAA team at large with special projects and programs.

Job Duties:

  • Advises prospective and
    current students about academic requirements and selection of courses.
  • Maintains and updates students’ academic files (via
    Navigate).
  • Analyzes and processes requests for readmission from academic exclusion and financial aid
    reinstatements.
  • Provides retention services for students who are part of the Academic Improvement Program.
  • Reviews course
    adjustment forms and academic petitions.
  • Monitors and tracks the retention, progression and graduation of all students within
    assigned population.
  • Determines awards recipients based on academic performance. Processes applications for state certifications,
    etc.
  • Audits and evaluates student records for curriculum, major and graduation requirements.
  • Evaluates and determines
    transfer credits and course descriptions to determine transferability; advises students on appropriate actions.
  • Schedules, leads
    and participates in mandatory advisement sessions.
  • Monitors and evaluates students’ registration activities and academic
    performance/progress.
  • Reviews and stays up to date on all AYS Undergraduate program and catalog updates/edits.
  • Coordinates
    and creates communications to students regarding course scheduling, core and major requirements, academic resources, advisement and
    advisement events, etc.
  • Disseminates information on university policies and procedures to students, faculty, parents,
    etc.
  • Refers students with academic discrepancies to proper officials for further action.
  • Coordinates and manages the BSCJ
    internship applications and/or coordinates and manages the BSW application for pre-BSW students assigned by population.
  • Conducts
    graduation audits for half of AYSPS undergraduate student population.
  • Liaison for Athletics and other departments/offices as
    needed.
  • Assists in training new advisors on DegreeWorks, best practices and advisement responsibilities.
  • Serves as mentor to
    UAC advisors as part of OAA team.
  • Assists with new student, transfer, transient and welcome center orientation.
  • Attends
    recruitment events, serves as a liaison for OAA UG Assistant Directors, faculty mentors and department staff and serves on appropriate
    university and college committees as assigned.
  • Assists in the preparation of special reports relating to enrollment and other
    matters as directed.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Salary: $45,000 – $52,089

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
Student
advisement experience in a university setting; Experience with use of BANNER or student database system; Experience with DegreeWorks and
Navigate/EAB. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Microsoft suite and Adobe.
