Advising
Provides information to, and advises both enrolled and prospective students regarding
the academic programs offered by the University or a specific department, including requirements for admission and retention through
graduation; may coordinate the work of entry level academic advisors.
- Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding
academic programs and curriculums. - Analyzes and processes degree plans, graduation applications, grade change forms, and general
petitions. - Maintains student files updated throughout their academic careers and makes changes to records as necessary.
- Analyzes and processes requests for readmission from academic suspension, as well as financial aid reinstatements; provides retention
services for students on probation. - May assist in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming new students.
- May
assist in recruiting high school and community college students and may make presentations at special events. - Performs other job
related duties as assigned.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or
professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained
through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program
that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
The department will not be accepting experience in lieu of education, or education in lieu of experience.

Job Summary/Additional Duties:
This position will serve as the primary
pre-health advisor for pre-health students at the University of Houston, and reports to the Director of the Pre-Health Advising Center. This
position involves educating and working with students on academic requirements for health professions programs, gaining admissions into
health professions programs, coordinating with other UH units that advise and support students applying to health professions programs, and
coordinating programs and events to support students with an interest in health professions programs.
- Meets with students for
individual advising on health professions preparation and information. - Maintains thorough records on pre-health students through
university software. - Assists in maintaining supplemental application materials in an electronic database for medical, dental and
other prehealth students. - Assists in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming pre-health students.
- Assists
in conducting workshops for pre-health students, focusing on assisting students in timely, successful activities in preparing for
application to health professions programs.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the
following:
- Higher Education experience.
- Ability to take initiative, problem solve, exercise excellent
judgment, demonstrate critical thinking skills and adapt to shifting priorities in diverse setting. - Ability to clearly interpret
and implement policies and procedures. - Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Excellent verbal and written communication
skills. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience
with medical school or other health professions advising.
