The Office of Academic Assistance in the College of Arts and Sciences is seeking to
hire a highly skilled and dynamic Academic Advisor III. This position will be responsible for assisting academic departments/units in the
College of Arts & Sciences with verbal or written academic plan, advisement interpretation, and implementation of university policies and
procedures in the areas of student enrollment and evaluation. Provides information to and advises both enrolled and prospective students
regarding the academic programs offered by the University, or a specific department; including requirements for admission and retention
through graduation. May coordinate the work of entry level academic advisors.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the
Academic Advisor III are the following:

  • Advises prospective and current students about academic requirements and selection of
  • Disseminates information on university policies and procedures to faculty, parents, students, etc.
  • Maintains
    students’ files updated throughout their academic careers and makes changes to records as necessary
  • Conduct orientation sessions for
    groups of incoming students
  • Audits student records for curriculum, major, graduation requirements
  • Evaluates and determines
    transfer credits; researches course descriptions to determine transferability
  • Compares transcripts with entrance and graduation
    requirements, and advises students on appropriate actions
  • Refers students with academic discrepancies to proper officials for
    further action
  • Processes registration permissions in Banner
  • Supports undergraduate directors with advisement related events
    and advisement data needs
  • Assists in the preparation of special reports relating to enrollment and related matters
  • Evaluates
    and maintains student records for degree requirements using academic evaluation system
  • Monitors student registration activities and
    academic performance/progress
  • Coordinates communications to students regarding course scheduling, core and major requirements,
    academic resources etc.
  • Reviews course adjustment forms and petitions for readmission of students
  • May teach or co-teach in
    GSU 1010 courses
  • Monitors and tracks the retention, progression and graduation of all students within assigned
  • May conduct informational sessions for the college
  • Performs other related duties as

Bachelor’s degree
and five years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

The preferred candidate will possess the following

  • Previous experience associated with higher education/academic office environment
  • Experience advising
  • Experience with any of the following – Banner, Argos, Degree Works, CAPP, Navigate
  • Highly proficient with
    Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Strong organizational skills
  • A self-starter,
    quick learner with an awareness to meet deadlines
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships
