Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The academic coach/advisor works closely with the BASORGL Academic Coach /Mentoring Coordinator to provide coaching to bachelor degree students. The academic coach/advisor also assists with admission, advising and registration processes for assigned students.  The academic coach/advisor must use the CANVAS LMS online as a Teaching Assistant and meets with the coordinator/faculty regularly.  May be required to conduct sessions in the evenings and weekends via zoom.   

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Delivers student academic advising and registration for the BASORGL program.
  2. Participates in coaching trainings and implements strategies to ensure student success in the BASORGL program. 
  3. Conducts pre-course conference calls to students prior to the start of the term.
  4. Works with faculty and conducts regular calls/zoom meetings/emails with students to review progress and potential end date for courses. 
  5. Responds to or ensures all student and faculty emails are responded to within 24 hours.
  6. Proactively monitors student academic progress and intervenes with “at-risk” students.
  7. Assists students with routine technology needs.
  8. Refers students’ questions to the correct department (Enrollment Services, Registrar, Academic Program Office, Financial Aid Office, etc.) for answers to questions. 
  9. Updates student portfolios and keeps thorough documentation of coaching/advising sessions. 
  10. Conducts reflection meetings with students during each “dead week” to discuss progress through courses, update on final grades, and registration for next term.
  11. Other duties as assigned by Academic Coaching/Mentoring Coordinator and BASORGL Program Director.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in advising, tutoring, education, counseling, or related field. 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • Experience in career counseling or academic advising. Experience in educational setting; experience with online learning, counseling, advising, and other online student services.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Special Conditions

Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed. May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
