Job Summary

UK Ag Equine Programs serves as the front door for equine endeavors being conducted at the University of Kentucky. The robust Equine Science and Management undergraduate degree program has grown since its inception with over 600 alumni and approximately 325 current matriculated students. UK Ag Equine Programs is a multidisciplinary program partnering with academic departments and units in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the university. The core faculty and staff of Equine Programs value teamwork, innovation and productivity to support students and equine-related efforts across the university. 

This position will have the opportunity to participate and support the undergraduate Equine Science and Management degree program. Major job areas of responsibility will include student advising (30%), curriculum and program management (20%), program monitoring and assessment (15%), alumni relations (15%), teaching and supporting equine -related instructional needs of the program (15%) and customer service and professional development (5%). Ideal candidates will have equine industry experience, superb written and oral communication skills, be organized, be able to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities, embrace new technology initiatives, have an eye for attention to detail and should be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Verbal and written communication skills needed to advise Equine Science and Management freshmen
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to assist students with coordination of class schedules, collaborating with the Director of Undergraduate studies, Senior Academic Advisor, academic advisors and other participating faculty
  • Database and computer skills for daily communications, meetings, assisting with student major switches and schedule changes
  • Strong writing skills to contribute to programmatic newsletters, announcements and social media posts
  • Knowledge of the equine industry to help in advising students, speaking with prospective students and families, attending industry events, serving as liaison for equine clubs and teams
  • Attention to detail and data tracking to assist curriculum assessment plans, tracking enrollment data, creating student surveys
  • Verbal communication and teaching skills to provide instructional support for Equine Science and Management courses
  • Organization and planning skills to track program alumni, assist with alumni-related events, serve as liaison between Equine Programs and the Equine Alumni Affiliate Network (EQAAN), manage alumni social media, collaborate in creation of alumni monthly e-newsletter, philanthropy
  • Ability to work on projects and initiatives on an individual basis and with a team
