The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at Penn State is seeking a candidate for an Academic Adviser to provide academic advising and related duties for undergraduate students in a growing and changing college. This job will be filled as a level 2 or 3 depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Provide academic advising to undergraduate students enrolled in and those exploring, majors in the College of IST

  • Interpret University policies and procedures, and college curriculum for students

  • Guide students in course selection, scheduling, and long-range planning and assist in resolving academic problems

  • Monitor academic progress,

  • Maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records

  • Participate in New Student Orientation and other college and university programs as appropriate

  • May be responsible to develop and execute new and creative strategies in academic services that support student success; may provide leadership to project and committee work

Education and Experience:

Level 2 of this position typically requires a Master’s Degree or higher and at least 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level 3 typically requires a Master’s degree or higher plus 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
