About This Role:
Kansas State University’s inaugural Pre-Professional Advising Center seeks an
advisor/recruitment coordinator who is engaged and committed to applying advising and recruitment best-practices within a collaborative,
diverse, inclusive and supportive environment that prepares students to become competitive professional school applicants.
Housed in
Student Success, this Center provides specialized advising to all students, serving prospective students, current students, and alumni on
how to achieve their health and law professional-school goals. We provide guidance and programing to encourage students to explore and
prepare for a competitive application to professional school programs such as law, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician
assistant, dental, occupational therapy, nursing, veterinary medicine, and more.
Guided by the fundamental principle that all
students have the potential to earn a degree, academic advisors at K-State build trusting relationships with students, helping them navigate
degree requirements, make meaning of their college experience, and plan for post-graduation experiences. Advisors teach students skills for
self-understanding and agency, adapt their approach to each student, and connect students to resources.
Some responsibilities
include:
- Design and implement summer programs to introduce prospective and current students to the health professions, diversify the
pre-health student population, and build academic skills. - Design and implement pre-professional recruitment events for prospective
students in coordination with campus partners both on and off campus. - Coordinate pre-professional campus visit experience academic
sessions for prospective students. - Coordinate selection and training of pre-health and pre-law Ambassadors
- Help students
explore their strengths and interests related to their career and academic goals. - Advise a caseload of 100-150 students through
individual appointments and in groups. - Engage students in continuing self-assessment. Act as a general resource for students and
advocate for them when appropriate. - Collaborate with primary program advisors on Academic Plans designed to meet degree goals and
preparation for professional school. - Document and share professional program changes with advising colleagues and students.
- Track student success in entering the job market professional schools.
- Teach students about different health careers, law
careers, and preparation for employment/professional school. - Write letters of reference/evaluation for students when
appropriate. - Review and provide feedback on students’ resumes, cover letters, personal statements and other professional
writing.
The Pre-Professional Advising Center offers all prospective students interested in the professions with a clear and
coherent point of entry. With increased visibility, K-State will be a destination for best-in-class professional school exploration and
preparation. The advisor-recruitment coordinator will, as part of Student Success, serve on university-wide committees and student success
engagement teams/committees to help further the goals of the Center and the broader Student Success unit.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Minimum
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in higher
education, counseling, academic advising or a health field - Knowledge of academic advising theories
- 3-5 years relevant
experience in academic advising - 2-5 years in undergraduate or professional school admissions
- Experience working with
students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education - Experience planning events and travel
- Demonstrated proficiency with technology (i.e. Microsoft Office including knowledge of Excel, customer relationship manager software)
and efficient use of e-mail - Native or near-native Spanish language proficiency
Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent
verbal and written communication skills - Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of competitive health profession and law
school application processes - Attention to detail
- Positive, student-centered educational philosophy
- Ability to
manage multiple priorities - Be highly motivated and demonstrate initiative
- Reliable and accurate in performing everyday
tasks - Able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to travel and work some evenings and limited weekends
as necessary

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
$45,000 – $53,000/yr
