Job Summary

Through academic progress sessions, the Program Advisor will advise Underrepresented Minority students, as well as students receiving the William C. Parker scholarship on academic, career, personal and social issues. Conduct and execute individual and group sessions. Expand outreach to students to include conducting Academic Progress Sessions and CARES info sessions at campus locations outside of the CARES office. Assist students in developing a plan for graduation and/or a plan to overcome obstacles when needed that may affect retention and progression toward graduation. Make referrals and facilitate connections to campus resources. Partner with college advisors to follow up with students on academic alerts and /or personal concerns and resolve identified issues. Plan and implement enrichment / engagement programs to include, developing workshops to meet student’s needs, partnering with other campus departments on programming and/or promoting programs to students. Assist with the planning and implementation of Summer Bridge Initiatives, to include participation in student selection, informational meetings, and assisting with social and cultural activities. Assist with University recruitment events to promote and market Summer Bridge Initiatives as well as CARES services and programs. Track and maintain records of student participation in Academic Progress Sessions and group meetings, academic support services and enrichment / engagement activities. Generate end of semester reports that will be used to evaluate student retention and progress toward graduation as well as effectiveness of services and programs.

Preferred Education/Experience

Degree in the following areas: Counseling, Higher Education, Student Services Administration, Social Work, Family Studies, or Psychology.

Experience working in higher education with an academic support program for Underrepresented Minority students, with a focus on Hispanic/Latinx and African American students. Prefer candidate who is bilingual, English and Spanish speaker.
