Rural Student Success Specialist/Career Planner/Academic Advisor

The
Rural Student Success Specialist/ Career Planner/Academic Advisor will report to the Program Director (Director of Rural Student
Outreach and Support). The position is responsible for providing rural middle school, high school, and college students
with resources and services for college success, career planning, supporting students’ career readiness, assisting students
with career placement, and providing career development opportunities. This position will focus on rural student-centered support as
well as academic advising for Freshmen and Sophomore rural students. The specialist will assist in planning and implementing
programs for rural middle school, high school, and college students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure
    the success of rural students through identifying personal/career goals and plans of action based on individual strengths and
    needs.
  • Provide educational and emotional support to ensure rural students’ success in the academic and the social
    college environment.
  • Provide academic advising for rural students
  • Plan and participate in Student Success activities for
    rural students
  • Communicate and provide support for rural students’ families
  • Collaborate with MVC departments to
    provide rural students with resources
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

A
Bachelor’s degree is required, a Master’s degree preferred, with work experience in higher education. Demonstrated
knowledge of the responsibilities and skills required to fulfill the position’s responsibilities. Demonstrated effective
communication skills, both verbal and written.
