Position Summary

The College of Nursing (CON) at the UNM Health Sciences Center is a complex organization with multitude programs and initiatives across all levels. The ideal candidate for Sr. Academic Advisor will embody the College’s core values which include academic excellence, diversity & inclusion, innovation, integrity, and respect.

The Sr. Academic Advisor will work with a highly energetic and student-oriented advisement team, you will be providing academic advisement to current undergraduate and graduate students within the CON. This is a fast-paced environment where employees strive to give excellent professional consultation/advice within demanding time constraints for multiple programs. 

This position is designed to encompass the direct academic advising functions provided to students across all CON programs and throughout the various stages of our students’ academic career including planning and participating with new student orientation and convocation. The candidate will have an understanding of student resources on campus as well as departmental requirements and objectives concerning degree goals. This includes monitoring academic progress, responding to student academic inquiries, assisting in the resolution of individual academic problems, advising on academic program changes, and guiding students to prepare for graduation. 

The successful candidate will possess strong advising, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, customer-service skills, excellent listening and communications skills. This candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and working with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population both internal and external to the CON.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Interpreting and analyzing department, college, and university degree requirements

  • Proficient communication as evidenced on your cover letter
