Department Description

UC Davis Global Learning Hub is an academic support unit that provides opportunities and resources for students who want to study and intern abroad. Annual study abroad enrollment exceeds 1,000 students in over 60 programs. UC Davis Study Abroad is a direct reporting unit of the Office Global Affairs.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Enrollment and Operations , responsible for developing and managing comprehensive services for study abroad programs, including enrollment and placement processes. Serve as special resource on enrollment and operations to units on campus and at other campuses. Interpret and enforce Study Abroad and university policies and use professional judgment to address exceptions and solve problems. Independently maintain a broad range of working relationships with students, parents, Global Learning Hub staff, units at UC Davis and other campuses. Provide student advising services for enrollment processes. Supervise 3-4 student assistants. Perform advanced operational assignments, analysis of enrollment data and development of new methods to improve enrollment outcomes.

Prepare and analyze statistics and reports on student participation, retention and withdrawals and evaluate recruitment strategies based on these data. Develop and implement targeted recruitment strategies to promote Study Abroad programs. Work with Global Learning Hub directors, staff and faculty leaders on development and implementation of new enrollment cycles, new programs, and policy related to risk management, health, student safety, physical and learning accommodations and other critical issues related to successful participation in study abroad.


Salary Range

$21.22/hr. – $40.47/hr.

  • Work in an office with frequent interruptions and noise from telephone conversations, visitors, staff, etc.
  • Work occasional overtime including evenings and weekends based on program requirements and pertinent deadlines.
  • Restricted vacation during peak workload periods. Travel to meetings, conferences and international study sites.

Additional Minimum License/Certification:

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Professional experience in the field of international education, including working knowledge of institutional policies, risk management, cross-cultural concepts and principles of good practice with regard to academic programs abroad.
  • Experience using specialized counseling/advising skills in a university environment.
  • Experience delivering significant and sensitive communication, both written and oral, including business/academic contracts, public statements, presentations to diverse audiences (students, parents, faculty, high level administration, large groups).

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Computer skill to work in fast-paced electronic environments, including high volume email response and distributions, database management, website maintenance, reports and data queries.
  • Knowledge of safety, security and health issues that may affect students participating in study abroad programs.
  • Knowledge about a wide variety countries and cultures. Familiarity with international political, social and cultural issues as they pertain to educational exchange.
  • Knowledge of academic departments, major, minor and general education requirements that can be satisfied by student participation in study abroad programs.
